Michael Shaw

Michael is a Sculptor and teacher who was shortlisted for the Jerwood Sculpture Prize 2003. Michael is well known for his large scale inflatable sculptures that have been exhibited across the UK.

In 2016, Gayle Price of Firebat Glass worked with Michael on two pieces - ‘Anyone Out There?’, Inspired by BTH radio valves, and ‘Sputnik’, Inspired by an ear syringe, from the Social History Collection.
Both pieces were displayed as part of Sculpting the Museum, at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, and are now part of the Museum collection.

Firebat, on working with Michael:

“The explicit inspirations of past scientific discovery in Michael’s work, and the bubbly, fun expression of the pieces made this a joy to work on - it’s immensely gratifying to know these are now treasured pieces of a Museum’s collection.”
